SONIC CONCERTS presents Beast at The Paragon Theatre, Sept. 16

...Montreal’s experimental trip hop group Beast will
perform in support of their self-titled debut album at The Paragon
Theatre in Halifax on Thursday, September 16 at 10:30 p.m.

Consisting of Betty Bonifassi, Jean-Phi Goncalves, Serge Pelletier and
Jonathan Dauphinais, Beast came together when the Bonifassi and
Goncalves worked on a video game project in 2006. The video for the
first single “Mr. Hurricane” off the self-titled record was nominated
at the 2009 Grammy Awards for Best Short Form Music Video.

The Toronto Star said, “One of the most strikingly original and
swaggeringly bad-ass Canadian albums to rear its head in recent
memory.”

Bonifassi lent her vocals to DJ Champion’s Chill ‘Em All which
included the hit song “No Heaven” and she was featured on the 2004
Academy Award nominated soundtrack to the “The Triplettes of
Belleville.” She performed the nominated song live on the 76th annual
Academy Awards broadcast.

Having worked with the likes of Lauryn Hill, drummer Goncalves is a
sought after producer and remixer. A percussionist and electro-jazz
composer, Goncalves has performed with multiple other bands, including
Afrodizz and Plaster.

Chartattack gave the group a perfect score on their NXNE report card
and said, “...Bonifassi has an extraordinary voice that's both
seductive and powerful. When she wasn't bellowing like a diva in a
packed opera house, she could spit rhymes like a rapper pumping up a
house party.”

Eye Weekly said of their live show, “...Beast came out like
gangbusters... the expressive Quebecois crew carried out a dizzying
trip-rock assault of numbers from their eponymous debut.”

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show (including tax) and go
on sale this Friday, June 11 at 10 a.m.
